Refining our Intuition - Detecting Charm

There is a little whisper that bubbles up through our nervous system known in the Vedic tradition as fine level of feeling (FLF for short), which is more commonly known as our intuition, sixth sense or "gut instinct". As we meditate more regularly, we both sharpen and refine our sensory perception - the sharper five senses combine to form a sixth sense able to detect the subtle shifts in the evolutionary forces around us - and we systematically remove the obstacles (the stresses in our nervous system) to detecting this FLF, and our capability to hear the little whisper increases dramatically. We have a fine level of feeling about something, one thing is a little bit more "charming" than another, hence the term charm, which readily describes that feeling that has us move in one direction over another: it just feels a little more charming, or sometimes unequivocally charming.

So, how do we detect charm? Charm comes from our fine level of feeling, it's a feeling, not a thinking...It tends to be felt in the heart, that little wave of charm. It's suddenly charming to do something, or it bubbles away as a little whisper, often subjugated to the background by the very noisy mind - as they say: the heart whispers - the mind, our thinking, however, can be very loud.

We can start to practise feeling into charm. To detect charm, we can sit in our least excited state of awareness, or take a moment and close the eyes, and see what we feel about a certain direction - does moving in that direction bring a little wave of charm through the nervous system, a feeling of wellbeing? Or does it create a feeling of aversion - the opposite of charm. Our deeper nature speaks to us through these simple feelings of charm and aversion. These are generally little waves of feeling (though sometimes charm can be very clear and strong), our fine level of feeling, which has us moving in the direction of our highest good, towards greater and greater evolution, which has us in the right place at the right time, and averts us from directions that do not serve our highest good, and that of the collective. We are often following charm without having known that was what we were doing - it's what makes us choose porridge over a smoothie of a given morning, or the choice of an apple over a pear - our deeper nature is indicating to us what will be best for our body in that moment, or on that day. If you're seeking clarity, you can drop a question into the two minutes at the end of your meditation - when you are in your most expanded, least-excited state of awareness, and allow the answer to come, without attachment to the outcome or the timing in which the answer makes itself known.

If you feel inclined, have a practise over the coming weeks and see if you can sense that fine level of feeling, and see what happens when you follow it.
