Shivaratri: The Great Night of Transcendence
The fourteenth day of every lunar month, or the night before new moon, is known as Shivaratri, a night of Shiva, where the transcendence principle in nature is very potent. These are the darkest nights of the year, but rather than a celebration of darkness, it’s an awakening to the vast state of transcendence that lies beyond all matter, cosmic Self. Shiva means literally ‘that which is not’, therefore that which is beyond the naked eye which perceives matter. The unbounded, pure consciousness. Shiva is considered in the Yog-Vedantic tradition to be ‘Adi Guru’, the first Guru, the source of all yogic knowledge and this is expressive of the call to turn towards your own transcendent nature as the source from which all knowledge flows.
The Shiva state is fearlessness, non-attachment, deep transcendent silence, supreme awakening, the sublime bliss of Being.
It’s an ideal time for increased spiritual practice to align with this opportunity for greater awakening and expansion. Of the 12 Shivaratris annually, the one occurring in February/March is the most potent. All across India, where the knowledge has been held about these cosmic events, across every tradition, there is increased sadhana, or spiritual practice, often all night long on Maha Shivaratri, the great Shivaratri, the great night of Transcendence. It’s a very important night for all of those on a spiritual path. There is a natural upsurge in energy which can be harnessed using the right spiritual techniques.
I invite you to join me for a very special evening of increased practice to align with and optimise this potent night. We’ll join together, have a group meditation and dive into advanced pranayama and kriya (techniques which make use of mantra, movement, breath and mudra - hand positions which elevate your entire system into a higher energetic signature) to have a deep experience together and enliven that great Shiva energy, the inner silent witness, pure consciousness within.
Let us awaken together to the depths and vastness of the sublime state of Shiva, pure bliss, pure existence.
