Refining our Intuition - Following Charm

There is a little whisper that bubbles up through our nervous system known in the Vedic tradition as fine level of feeling (FLF for short), which is more commonly known as our intuition, sixth sense or "gut instinct". As we meditate more regularly, we both sharpen and refine our sensory perception - the sharper five senses combine to form a sixth sense able to detect the subtle shifts in the evolutionary forces around us - and we systematically remove the obstacles (the stresses in our nervous system) to detecting this FLF, and our capability to hear the little whisper increases dramatically. We have a fine level of feeling about something, one thing is a little bit more "charming" than another, hence the term charm, which readily describes that feeling that has us move in one direction over another: it just feels a little more charming, or sometimes unequivocally charming.

So why is charm important, why do we want to follow charm? Charm bubbles up directly from Nature itself, from the unified field of infinite creative intelligence and possibilities. Knowledge at that layer is not time/space bound, it's infinite. Our intellect is the equivalent of a grain of sand in the ocean of our consciousness. We have an ocean of intelligence available to us, but so often we continue to refer to that one grain of sand (the intellect), as to what direction to take. You may have had experiences, or heard stories, where people made decisions based on 'gut instinct' or a 'feeling', that had no logic to them at all and resulted in some of the greatest discoveries of all time, the most creative and successful businesses or the avoiding of great disaster. Charm has us in the right place at the right time - for maximising opportunities for our highest good and growth, for averting danger, and for progressing the evolution of the whole. It's our own guidance system designed to lead us in most evolutionary, frictionless direction, in alignment with all the laws of Nature, for the highest good of the collective. The intellect is limited to what is known, what we have already experienced, or seen around is and is heavily influenced by our own fears and limited thinking, or that of the closest ones around us. Charm comes from the infinite field of possibilities and creativity, which is our greater nature. Sounds good, right?

So, one morning on the day you planned to hit the gym because it's your schedule to go 5 times a week and today is leg day, and you just can't miss leg day...But, upon waking you find that it's suddenly a lot more charming to go for a walk, or to rest a little longer in bed and skip the gym. You have two options - you can override that deeper intelligence, your oceanic consciousness, that deeper knowing and force yourself to the gym, or you can follow charm, sink into that juicy feeling of relief of the slightly more charming direction. Perhaps there was an imbalance in the body that would readily heal with a day's rest and allow you to bounce back for your gym session the next day, or perhaps you were due to injure yourself that day because you were a little fatigued and not paying attention, but by steering clear you avoided weeks out of the gym. We don't need to ask why. By following charm we know we are most likely to be in alignment and acting towards our own highest good, and that of the whole.

That feeling we had could of course have been resistance to exercise and not charm, our FLF at all, but in meditators this becomes less and less likely, and, by experimenting and practising following charm, our power of detection and ability to follow charm despite intellectual resistance increases...give it a go and see how it feels.
